What belongs in a useful pet diary?

A useful pet diary records enough context to notice a pattern without making everyday care burdensome. Entries can include appetite, water intake, medication, sleep, walks, toileting, unusual behavior and a photo or short note about the day. Consistency matters more than volume: a brief observation recorded at roughly the same time is easier to compare than a flood of disconnected data. The diary should distinguish owner notes from device-generated summaries and show when each item was captured. It can help a family coordinate care or prepare specific observations for a veterinary appointment, but it is not a medical record and should not delay professional advice when a pet appears unwell.

Why selected moments?

Selection keeps the recap understandable. A handful of meaningful entries can show a routine or change without asking an owner to review hours of footage. petting’s design direction treats the diary as a gentle prompt to notice, not a scorecard for perfect care.
